LONDON, June 22. This week is Children's Hospice Week and the HEA team are proud to continue to support Richard House based in Beckton, East London who we have partnered with since 2018.
Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, Richard House has continued to support the local and wider community with its specialist expertise. Indeed, located a stone's throw away from the temporary NHS Nightingale facility at the Excel centre, the nurses and staff's support has been called on even more in order to protect the lives of children with long term conditions that need to be shielded from the virus.
The additional demands placed on Richard House during the crisis come in parallel where they have been unable to actively fundraise and this has led to a serious shortfall in funds threatening the work of the hospice which is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2020.
Chris Starling, HEA's Managing Director commented: "Having visited several times, this is no ordinary Children's Hospice. It was London's first and Richard House have a level of expertise and support care not found in similar facilities which they have built up over time. The Government has rightly acknowledged this with some immediate funding but the hospice is still facing a significant shortfall in the next few months. During hospice week we normally run a drop-in free charity lunch in our offices to raise funds and awareness of the work of Richard House but sadly this year we will not be able to do so."
